After crossing the grades of Tehachapi Pass on the morning of March 6, 1995, an eastbound Southern Pacific freight approaches Mojave, California. Leading the train is the freshly-rebuilt No. 8690, a former Burlington Northern SD45 rebuilt by MK Rail into a SD40M-2 for SP.
