Timetabled traffic through the new 15,4 kilometer long Ceneri Base Tunnel (CBT) between Camorino (near Giubiasco) and Vezia (near Lugano) will start with change of timetable in december this year. But during the trial operation to run in the operating procedures, both passenger and freight trains are already being routed through the tunnel instead of over the line over the Ceneri Pass. Here the Re 620 # 036 of the SBB pulls train 49035 from Basel Kleinhüningen Hafen to Chiasso in the direction of the tunnel portal at Camorino. The train transports steel (coils), which was reloaded from the Rhine ship in Basel, for the northern Italian industry. The train, which weighs about 1450 tons, would have required an additional locomotive when crossing the Ceneri Pass (previous line) from Bellinzona. In the background, a "Giruno" high-speed train RABe 501 # 0... runs as train 10358 (EC 358) from Milan to Zurich over the curved bridge from the tunnel portal in the direction of Giubiasco-Bellinzona.
