The big cut at Belmont, Nebraska bypassed a summit tunnel thru the top the the Pine Ridge Escarpment. This was the only railroad tunnel in Nebraska. In the late 1970's Crawford Hill was completely rebuilt for the flood of coal trains moving out of the Powder River Basin. On this gorgeous day in the Panhandle of Nebraska a coal hauling veteran AC4400 leads a unit train up the grade in full Run-8. The steep sandstone walls funnel the noise into a deafening roar!
