Tucked away in the KCS-MILW Joint Agency Yard (more commonly known as Knoche Yard, shared by Kansas City Southern and Canadian Pacific) is a pair of SD40s: Dakota Minnesota & Eastern 6092 is the former CP Rail 5528, and CITX 3101 is ex-Southern Pacific 8439 (later SP 7381, then GCFX 3101). The DM&E unit still has tell-tale signs of its Canadian heritage, paint notwithstanding, such as the tri-colour (it is Canadian, after all) classification lights, the numberboard-mounted bell, the nose light, heavy pilot and stepwells that allow a switchman to comfortably ride on the engine (because, after all, Canadians are just so darn polite!). As seen from the rear, the Citi Leasing unit betrays its SP heritage with the wide plate above the rear headlight, on which the SP placed a dual-bulb Gyralight and red single-bulb unintended emergency Gyralight above that.
