Remarks & Notes
1 meter gauge ballast cleaning machine RM 76 "Capricorn" of the SMG (Sersa Maschineller Gleisbau) at work on the Rhaetian Railway between Davos Platz and Davos Frauenkirch. The old ballast is transported by a chain conveyor system into a large bunker, shaken and sifted, dirt and too small stones are transported by a conveyor belt on excavating material cars. The still usable material (usually about 60%) is poured back into the track and supplemented with new ballast. The powerfull articulated, self-propelled machine, running on 4 bogies, was built by the austrian Plasser & Theurer to the specifications of the swiss one meter gauge railways.

Photographs that depict train crews and other railroad employees at work. After all, the trains don't run themselves!
