There are two huge wildfires currently burning on Colorado's western slope and the smoke is helping to create some amazing sunrises. Here the California Zephyr has passed through Akron, Colorado and is heading across the open plains, with the engineer giving a friendly wave, towards Fort Morgan as Mother Nature offers up a colorful show.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
Two Amtrak routes serve the Centennial State. The California Zephyr's route through Moffat Tunnel and along the Colorado River goes from one end of the state to the other. The Southwest Chief cuts across the southeast corner.
