| Carbon county coal climbs the steep 2.4% grade at Nolan. The steep grade with 9 degree curves has always challenged the heavy tonnage that has moved west. Helper and Martin were synonymous with helper locomotives that have shouldered into trains up the canyon since the rails were first laid. High Quality Colorado and Utah coal still moves up the grade, but not in the volumes it once did. |
