Remarks & Notes
Tunnel District A very heavy westbound manifest for Grand Junction, Colorado crawls thru the most challenging portion of the Moffat Road. There is no place else on the Moffat Road that challenges a train like the 3 miles below Crescent. The tunnels, grades and curves are the reason Rio Grande bought so many Tunnel Motor SD40T-2s. The head-end locomotives are on a short section of 2.5% while the rest of the train is stretched out on a mostly compensated 2%. Between Tunnels 15 and 14 above long shadows is one of two DPU motors shoving hard into the heavy tonnage train.
