Our 1985 trip west found us spending the night in Las Vegas, New Mexico. We were headed for Abo Canyon the next day, and we hoped to get a train on Glorietta Pass. In the morning, we heard a westbound train, which would be our “meal ticket” to Albuquerque. When we caught the train at Ribera, we couldn’t have had better luck than to find one of the Santa Fe’s rebuilt ex=Amtrak SDP40F’s leading the train.
