" FPCH at Walk "
P&W train FPCH (Fresh Pond-Cedar Hill) crosses the Norwalk River from South Norwalk to East Norwalk, Connecticut on the early morning of July 7, 2020. Part of the CP241 Interlocking of the New Haven Line of Metro North it is also referred to as "Walk Bridge", one of five moveable bridges on the New Haven Line, and the location of a pair of highly publicized failures to close during evening rush hours in 2014. The bridge built in 1896 is slated for replacement with preparation work already started. Providence and Worcester is the only regular freight operator, running CHFP / FPCH and CT-2 over this structure (CSX has operating rights but rarely exercises them). As elsewhere on Metro North, nights are when the freight trains run, and C40-8 4052 leads three other GE's and 100 empties back to Cedar Hill for forwarding to Connecticut quarries.
