When running down the center of city streets, a railroad cannot make a turn as sharply as the other vehicles on the street. Here we see Union Pacific train LOA32 making a right turn off of Anaheim’s Santa Ana Street to head south on Olive Street, bisecting some buildings constructed up against the UP’s Santa Ana Industrial Lead’s right-of-way. With a 5 mile-per-hour speed limit here, no super-elevated curves are needed. UP GP60 1064 is pulling a nine-car train of tank cars for Behr Paint in Santa Ana and box cars for the industrial area around Angel Stadium. Always safety conscious, the train is using its turn signals, which are large red lights on poles with X-shaped signs on them. (Anaheim, California – July 6, 2020)
