Railroad mergers often make strange bed fellows out of motive power. Who would have thought WC 711, a former Soo Line Alco trucked GP30 (same no.), would mate up with former Fox River Valley GP9 no. 4501, of Soo rival C&NW origin. The 4501 was built as CNW 1735 in June 1957, equipped with roof top torpedo tubes and a large fuel tank. CNW rebuilt it in Sept. 1972 with a chopped nose. The power is parked near the yard office at North Fond du Lac.
