Nearly seven years after receiving the red and yellow colors of the proposed Southern Pacific Santa Fe merger, Southern Pacific SD45R 7564 is showing some wear and tear when found in Dolores Yard – so perhaps it might be a good thing that the merger was denied. SP 7564 was built by EMD in March 1969 as SP SD45 9026, and it was rebuilt by the SP’s Sacramento Shops in February 1986. (Carson, California – December 31, 1992)
