Two Amtrak long-distance trains are prepped for their evening departures at the "Launching Pad," at the carrier’s Redondo Junction facility about three miles south of downtown L.A. The train on the left, behind Amtrak Dash 8-40BP 821 (and P42DC 79), is train 2, the Sunset Limited, which will depart L.A. for New Orleans at 10:00 pm (22:00), and the train on the right, with Amtrak’s Veterans unit, P42DC 42 (and P42DC 41), is train 4, the Southwest Chief, which will shortly be heading north to Union Station for loading and a 6:00 pm (18:00) departure for Chicago.
