The daily boxcar train from Bolivia, with cars of the EMPRESA FERROVIARIA ANDINA S.A (with the former inscription of FCA=Ferrocarril Andino) is running through San Pedro on the way to Calama and the harbour of Antofagasta. As far as I know, mineral concentrate (loose bulk!) is transported out of Bolivia in these cars, the loading possibly takes place in Poopó, 48 kilometres south of Oruro and in Agua da Castilla (Porco mines) on the Potosí branch. The train is pulled by the Former Queensland Railway GL26C-2 # 2004 and former Columbia (FNC) GT22CU-3 (rebuilt GR12) # 2404 of the FCAB (Ferrocarril de Antofagasta a Bolivia). In the background is one of the tallest active vulcanoes of the World, the 6145 meter (20161 feet) high San Pedro. Last outbreak was in 1960, presently the volcano is fumarolically active. Here we are about 3230 meter a.s.l. an there are about 320 kilometer through the Atacama desert to Antofagasta.
