Charging across Farwell Bridge. Here we see the beefy, Clover Valley #4, an articulated saddle-tanker, as she hauls her mixed freight across the Farwell Bridge at about MP 31.7. One of the unique features of the Niles Canyon Line is that several of the bridges still feature their original cut stone abutments. During the Southern Pacific era, this line quickly became secondary to another main line further north. For this reason, the line never received many of the upgrades that were done elsewhere, hence, it retains some of its original historic fabric. The Niles Canyon Railway is not long, but it is a very interesting stretch of track, with very nice scenery and a number of really good photo locations.
