Remarks & Notes
The Southwest Chief splits a pair of semaphore signals as it navigates the tight twists and turns along BNSF's Glorieta Subdivision. In 2020, the semaphores along this route were the last remaining on any mainline route in the United States. In the rural regions of the desert Southwest, time seems to stand still. On the right, the old code line still stands tall.

Railroad Pole Lines

Album created by member Matt Weldon
Album Views: 31,803
Photos showing the railroad pole lines. The pole line used four basic electrical circuits - telegraph, telephone, signaling, and power. Modern technologies of fiber optics, microwave, radio, satellite, and computers have been replacing the pole lines.

The Southwest Chief is an under-appreciated train. The New Mexico scenery is like none other in the entire system.
