Remarks & Notes
Steam, smoke and snow
Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad Rotary OY approaches Colorado Highway 17 grade crossing at Coxo, Colorado, on March 1, 2020. The steam-powered rotary plow is being pushed by K-36 Mikado locomotives Nos. 487 and 484, all three of them bathing the evergreens on the north side of the track with steam, smoke and snow as the train works upgrade on the steep four percent grade up 10,015-foot Cumbres Pass. It’s the first time since 1997 that C&TS has operated the plow, kicking off the 50th anniversary celebration of the railroad this year.
