Remarks & Notes
During the late evening hours in mid September of 2014, the northbound empties CSX Q210-19 (Greenville,SC-Louisville,KY) is scooting north on the CSX Western & Atlantic Subdivision on the outskirts of Ringgold, GA heading for Chattanooga, TN. The C40-8 on the head is glistening in the early fall sunset as it was to our knowledge later on that it was wearing it's last paint scheme in the final years of it's service. Even though it was going to me a few more years before the last generation of standard cab GE's were to be retied on CSX, the writing was on the wall for the 7500s, and 7600s series locomotives. CSX had gotten their money worth out of the almost 30 year old locomotives, and it was getting near the end of their years on a class 1 railroad. Personally I missed these old rugged, raggedy beast, cause every C40-8 on CSX at that time had it's own look, and the C40-8 or Dash 8-40C as they were pronounced by GE will go down in history as the locomotive that became a game changer for General Electric in the "great horsepower race" of the 1980s, and 90s against Electro-Motive Division.
