A new but once familiar sight graced the rails of the Batten Kill Railroad on Friday, February 7th when Southern New England Alco RS-36 #5012 in a D&H lightning stripe-inspired scheme traversed the line between Eagle Bridge, NY and Greenwich Junction, NY. The 5012 trailed BKRR Alco RS-3 #4116 on the northbound train this day, but a couple of switching maneuvers here at Shushan allowed this view of the engine by itself. The sight of a D&H lightning stripe-painted engine has not been seen on this line since the D&H sold its Washington Branch to the Batten Kill Railroad in 1982. Southern New England Railroad is a locomotive leasing company, and current plans for the 5012 are mostly storage until another railroad leases it.
Taking a look at the same train and scene as captured by different photographers. The best way to view will be to sort by photo date so the photos are grouped together.
This album seeks to portray classic New England and Upstate New York imagery. It showcases the most perfect examples of regional identity, with special attention to structures and landscape.
