A westbound Rio Grande intermodal train exits the Glenwood Tunnel east of Glenwood Springs on July 6, 1987. This part of Interstate 70 highway through Glenwood Canyon was completed in 1965, with a goal of a “tasteful blend between the wonders of human engineering and the wonders on nature.” The rest of the interstate through the canyon was built much later, finally completed in 1992. I’m not too sure about how aesthetically pleasing it is, though.
