As a surprise, for the opening event of the new Gotthard Base Tunnel (GBT), the steamlocomotive D 1/3 # 1 "Limmat" was brought from Brugg (AG) by road transport to Erstfeld. The "Limmat" is an operational replica of the first locomotive in Switzerland, which ran between Baden and Zürich and was called the "Spanisch-Brötli-Bahn". The original "Limmat" was built in 1847 by Emil Kessler/Germany, the replica dates from 1947. The D 1/3 # 1 is running in the yard of Erstfeld during the large Gotthard Base Tunnel opening event.
