Remarks & Notes
BNSF 4688 leads this crude oil train eastward through the snow covered Utah desert. The train loaded at the Price River Terminal near Wellington, Utah and is probably destined for Cushing, Oklahoma. Utah is producing more oil than can be refined by the 5 refineries in Salt Lake City. The oil is also in demand at other refineries out of state who are willing to pay a premium price for this high quality, but waxy oil. Those tank cars are insulated and also equipped with steam coils to heat the oil. This oil has a high "pour point" of around 110 degrees F. Below 110 degrees it solidifies into something like candle wax, hence the steam coils.
