Ten covered hoppers were on the rear of the consist of Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4014’s final few days of its two month trip to the southwest. On the eve of November 25, 2019, the train arrived in Denver, Colorado, and tied up at Utah Junction near Pecos Street, which is a former Rio Grande facility. The next morning, the region was slammed by a snowstorm. UP No. 4014 was to travel four miles on the Belt Line to reach UP’s Greeley Subdivision for a trip north to its Cheyenne home, all in a back up move! Two members of the crew were unfortunate enough to draw point duty on the rear of the train. Because of the snow, the train stopped at each crossing and these guys also cleared out the flangeways of snow and ice, then they would then board the car and ride to the next crossing in the bone-chilling cold. In this view, No. 4014’s train has stopped at Washington Street as the two workers clear out the white stuff on November 26, 2019.
