This looks like a string of abandoned equipment, but in fact it's the opposite. A year before Connecticut's Valley Railroad began operation on a former New Haven branchline, organizers had gathered startup equipment including GE 44-Tonner 400, 2-8-0 97, and a collection of passenger cars in the Essex, CT, yard. Steam trains would begin running here the following summer.
