Prodigious amounts of rain caused disastrous flooding in California in the first half of 1983. SP's line over Tehachapi Pass was badly damaged, and even some areas in the Central Valley saw reroutes. Here an eastbound SP manifest near Westley uses the secondary West Side Line between Tracy and Fresno. Note the large pool of rainwater right up to the ballast, giving the train just a few feet of clearance from the wet stuff.
For the train and storm chaser. Trains with thunderstorms, dark clouds, rain, lightning, hurricanes - tropical storms, funnel clouds, storm light, rainbows, and snow storms.
