Flexi-Vans were an early form of intermodal containerized freight handling that was adopted in the 1960s by the New York Central and a few other railroads, utilizing specialized highway boxes and flat cars. Following the Penn Central merger they started showing up on ex-PRR lines as well. This GG-1 raced north with a string of Flexi-Vans on the Northeast Corridor at Iselin, NJ.
