A short freight has just arrived at Wheeling & Lake Erie’s Rook Yard, powered by WE “SD40-3” 3048 and “SD40-2” 6997. The 3048 is ex-Wisconsin Central Oxford Leasing (WCOL) 3102, originally Union Pacific SD40 3102. WE 6997 was built as Southern Pacific SD39 5310, and following retirement was sold to Progress Rail and then National Railway Equipment Corporation. It was rebuilt into an SD40-M and leased to Union Pacific as UP 4763, and later renumbered UP 2807 before being sold to the WE.
