Built 1893 by Carter Brothers, The current standard paint scheme for Powell Street cable cars honors the very first paint design, displayed on Powell cable car No. 1. It is a simplified version of the historic 1888 livery resurrected in 1973 to celebrate the centennial of the world’s first cable car line on Clay Street. Today, a majority of Powell Street cable cars wear this livery, including Nos. 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 14, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 27, and 28 per streetcar.org
