| Past the nominal end of summer. Labor Day is perceived as the end of summer because of the return to school and normal work practices for many Americans. One “end of summer” is the return of a more limited schedule to the Montauk Branch of the MTA LIRR. Train 8721 is a 2036 departure from Montauk for Jamaica (where passengers can change trains for NY Penn Station), but like its more famous cousin 8717 (Cannonball) it will operate until October 13 this year. Seen here on July 2, 2017, the sunset on Fort Pond Bay with a touch of God’s Light peeking out from behind the clouds evokes a sense of the season. |
