While everyone else who went to Cook Springs went to the famed curve about half a mile to the east, I chose to shoot NS train 088, the Kansas City Southern OCS, at the less famous location of J's Retail. Take away the modern power poles & the chevy Tahoe in the background, & you could say this was a scene that closely replicates something from the 1940s & 50s. For those wondering why their are KCS F units on Norfolk Southern tracks in the middle of Alabama, the KCS OCS was making a rare appearance off of its home rails since KCS executives wanted to inspect the AGS South & Alabama East Districts since several of their trains run on them, going to & from Atlanta.
