Charging west at 2nd Iron. With just a touch of blue sky showing through, Conway Scenic's big 0-6-0 charges across 2nd Iron Bridge, hauling her special passenger excursion toward a scheduled servicing stop at the Notchland Inn. The train is ultimately destined for an appearance at the Whitefield Airport, to participate in the airport's open house and airshow. Given how recently the engine emerged from a 1,472 SDI, this was a pretty ambitious trip for the old girl. Fortunately, the crew took very good care of her, stopping frequently to check her running gear and making good use of the diesels on the tail end of the consist, to ensure she didn't have to work too hard on the steeper grades of the old Maine Central Mountain Division. By all accounts, the 7470 did great this day, and the railroad is already planning a similar excursion for the railfan weekend at the end of the summer.
