The BNSF San Bernardino Subdivision between Los Angeles' Hobart Yard and Fullerton, 20 miles away, is a busy piece of railroading. BNSF operates a lot of freight trains on this line, which connects the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach to Texas, Kansas City and Chicago, among other parts of the country. These freights share the line with, on a weekday, 26 Amtrak trains and 27 Metrolink commuter trains. To handle the volume, parts of this segment are triple-tracked, and Amtrak Pacific Surfliner" 566 (Los Angeles to San Diego), behind P42DC 154, is operating on Track 3 as it approaches Fullerton, California, on March 25, 2019.
