A very late Amtrak number 3, the westbound "Southwest Chief," makes a stop at Victorville, California, 16 hours late. A single coach passenger detrains here, yet this train will remain in Victorville long enough to depart 17 hours late. The crew is waiting to meet Amtrak number 4, this train's eastbound coulnterpart, in order to switch crews and avoid potential problems caused by the lateness of this train. I imagine that the passengers onboard, realizing that they are sitting in this dusty Mojave Desert town for nearly an hour, would be upset, but those I can see through the windows seem to be taking this in stride. Such is the attitude one must have when riding Amtrak's long-distance intercity trains these days. (July 10, 2019)
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
