Union Pacific's busy (note the yellow signal for the eastbound main, indicating another train is imminent) triple-track mainline across Nebraska sees a lot of rail traffic, with a substantial number of them old-style "loose freight car" trains. A case in point is this Manifest, speeding across the high plains as it makes its way from Kansas City MO to North Platte NE on August 19, 2017. UP train MKCNP-18 is making track speed (70 miles per hour) powered by a pair of 4000-horsepower SD70Ms (UP 4352 and 3882) pulling 98 cars (46 loads and 52 empties) stretching for 5962-feet (and weighing 7550 tons).
Coal and steel don't go bad. This album features long, slow, heavy freight trains; drag freights, slop freights, dead freights, etc. Trains with lots of power, and lots of different cargo slogging along behind.
