BNSF Railway, and their two predecessor components (Burlington Northern and Santa Fe), has kept many of their older locomotives, particularly GP30s and GP35s, in active service by rebuilding them to suit their needs. BNSF GP39-2R 2625 was built as Santa Fe GP35 1354 by EMD in April 1965. ATSF later renumbered it 3354, then 2854, before the merger with BN, at which point it became BNSF 2554. In December 2014, the locomotive was rebuilt into a "GP39-2R." In the process, it lost the small radiator fan between the two larger radiator fans and the numberboards were extended to create more storage space in the cab. (McCook, Nebraska - August 19, 2017)
