In the early glinting hours of a perfect late spring morning in the lower Tehachapi hills, a north bound BNSF intermodal slowly drifts off the grade, through tunnel 1 and down into the Caliente valley, as the warm sun hits the train’s sides along the way. Seen pushing it’s rear portion up into Bealville, are the DPUs of a south bound UP manifest, that was holding in Bealville for the intermodal to pass by.
