Remarks & Notes
One of Texas State Railroad's prized possessions is its Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway Co. 4-6-2 No. 1316. This is the original boiler of that locomotive, built by Baldwin Locomotive Works, in Philadelphia, in 1911, it apparently is no longer under warranty. While repair and refurbishment is possible, it was deemed more practical to manufacture a brand new boiler which though completed, sadly did not meet expectations. The locomotive, an oil burner, was donated to the Fort Concho Foundation at San Angelo, TX in 1954 and later purchased in 1980 to the TSRR. The Railroad restored her to operation in 1982, painted her green with silver smoke box and numbered her 500. I believe the locomotive ran at least up until 1996 before being sidelined. The railroad still hopes to have her back in operation, but it may be some time (and money!).
