On one of those idyllic early autumn days when the air is warm and refreshing, a distant groan begins to fill the atmosphere as a westbound works its way up the Potomac valley along the Magnolia Cut-off. The obvious attraction today was the color position light signals, and their rustic code lines, and the approaching freight train added just the right element to a sunny day that at once seems so recent and so long ago.
