For the shakedown run, the day was getting long and the railfans were hearing chatter on the radios that indicated doubt as to whether the run would happen at all. Then the huge locomotive left the roundhouse and after having the rods greased in the yard, departed Cheyenne and headed south towards Colorado. The sun was low, making for some dramatic shots, with sunlight illuminating the running gear to great effect.
