| During a dreary Spring evening on an obscure branch line in rural North Carolina. A battle worn GP38AC coughs up a cloud of exhaust as if the engineer gave it a quick kick in its sides with spurs. With only 4 left of its kind on the NS roster at the time, this old high hood was not yet a super endangered species as it was still in good company with some of its high hood cousins. Looking back on photos like this. It definitely gives you a feeling of melancholy as one stares down the face of these old high hoods that used to be the poster child for the classic Norfolk Sourhern look from the 80’s well into the delivery of some of the first wide cab locomotives. |
