Remarks & Notes
The depth and ruggedness of the Royal Gorge west of Canon City is evident in this view perched on the suspension bridge over the canyon that is 955 feet above the Arkansas River. On July 26, 1996, an eastbound Southern Pacific freight negotiates the tight confines and just ahead of the train visible at the bottom of the scene is Hanging Bridge which is the narrowest portion of the canyon.
