Remarks & Notes
Chessie System acquired a number of new GP15s in the early 1980s, and assigned several of them to a captive pool operating on the ex-Rock Island line west of Joliet. Once they arrived, the Henry turn (which operated out the main to Bureau and then down the Peoria branch to Henry) was powered virtually every day by 2 or 3 of the bright, little geeps. Before the GP15s arrived, though, it was a little more interesting, with any of Chessie's older geeps liable to show. On this late summer day back in 1982, a GP9 and GP30 lead the westbound leg through Depue, one of the many small towns in this part of Illinois that were struggling to survive the loss of their industries.
