The last northbound run of "The Laurentian" takes on fuel and water before crossing the border into Canada and continuing to Montreal for the last time. D&H passenger service would return to upstate New York on August 5, 1974 with the first run of "The Adirondack".

The Adirondack follows both the Hudson and the Lake Champlain shoreline on its leisurely trip between New York and Montreal. When it started, it was pulled by beautiful ALCO PAs purchased by Delaware & Hudson second-hand from the Santa Fe.
