| Racing past Metrolink's layover yard in Moorpark, Amtrak 761 picks up speed even with three additional coaches and one locomotive on this morning's train. The extra equipment comes following large spikes in ridership after the railroad became the only means of transportation between Santa Barbara and Carpinteria in January of this year. The closure of the vital coastal freeway US 101 was forced after the deadly Montecino mudslides swept down the hillsides after much of the surrounding land was scorched by the Thomas Fire. |
