Remarks & Notes |
Westbound Conrail train ALCG (Allentown – Corning) passes the parking lot of the Acme supermarket in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania. The Lehigh Valley’s Mauch Chunk station was located in this area until passenger service was discontinued in 1961. Mauch Chunk was renamed Jim Thorpe in a 1950’s publicity move that brought the Native American Olympian’s remains from Oklahoma to Pennsylvania in an attempt to draw tourists to the town. |
