Rio Grande EMD SD40T-2 “Tunnel Motor” No. 5401 is on the point of Union Pacific’s Denver to Salt Lake City manifest Freight on April 2, 2001. It is working its way past the east end of Cliff siding at Pinecliffe on a nice early spring day in the Colorado Rockies. Rio Grande No. 5401 has been saved by the Colorado Railroad Museum and currently awaits transport to the museum grounds while currently being stored on Coors Brewery property in Golden.
The EMD SD (special duty) series are a strong and reliable kind of locomotive which still serve America's rails today. They have proved themselves reliable by clocking in several million miles of freight service over several decades.
