Top Ten of 2017. With 2017 in the books, here's a look back at my Top 10 favorite shots from the past year. 1. When it was announced late in 2016 that Southern Pacific 4-8-4 4449 would be pulling an excursion from Portland, Oregon to Bend and return for the first time in five years, I spent a lot of the beginning of 2017 looking at photographs of previous trips and making a list of potential spots to make sure we didn't screw up the chase. Two of my most wanted shots were the tall bridges north of Bend, the Crooked River Bridge near Terrebonne and this one, the Willow Creek Canyon Trestle in Madras.
Mount Jefferson (10,495 feet) is about to be blocked by the Daylight, while the Three Sisters can be seen above the dome cars at the rear of the train.
The Oregon Trunk, the route most well known for the Deschutes Railroad War, still sees BNSF-and at times detouring UP-traffic today. This album covers all images taken along the line between Celilo and Chemult, Oregon.
