| This is the shortest coal train I have ever seen on Soldier Summit; 20 cars loaded at the Savage coal loadout near Wellington, Utah. After I posted this shot on a railfan site in 2010 I learned that this was a test shipment of coal to the cement plant at Monolith, CA. It was an attempt to change the plant’s coal type to try and reduce emissions. I don’t know if it worked or not, but I do know that the Utah Ry is not shipping Utah coal to anywhere now! |
