Passengers line up on the platform of Amtrak's Route 128 station in suburban Westwood, MA, as their Washington-bound train enters behind F40PH 208 while a northbound discharges on the adjacent track. This relatively modest station was replaced in 2000 by the current facility with a larger waiting room and high level platforms.
Once treated like a backwater with decrepit locomotives, cars and track, Massachusetts has become a star in the Amtrak constellation with electrification to Boston, service to Maine and an upgraded Connecticut Valley line.
